South Australia and the Northern Territory have no public register FIZO can search. Contact their law societies directly.
Questions
How do I check if my financial adviser is registered?
Anyone giving you personal financial advice must be on ASIC's Financial Advisers Register. Type their name into the box above, or search the register itself on Moneysmart. The entry shows who licenses them, so you know who is responsible for their advice.
How do I check a tax agent or BAS agent?
Only a tax agent registered with the Tax Practitioners Board can charge you to prepare or lodge a tax return, and only a registered BAS agent can charge for BAS services. Search their name or registration number above, or on the TPB's public register.
How do I check a mortgage broker?
Mortgage brokers must hold an Australian credit licence or be a credit representative of someone who does. Search the broker's name or their credit representative number above, or on ASIC's professional registers.
What if the person I searched for is not found?
It does not mean they are unregistered. They may be listed under a different name, a business name or their licensee's name, or have joined the register since FIZO last copied it. Check the official register using the links on this page before you decide anything, and ask the person for their registration number.
Does a match mean FIZO recommends them?
No. A match only shows the regulator lists them. FIZO does not give financial advice and does not rate or recommend anyone.
How do I check a lawyer?
Each state keeps its own register of lawyers. Use the state links on this page. South Australia and the Northern Territory do not have a public register FIZO can search, so contact the Law Society of South Australia or the Law Society Northern Territory directly.
FIZO shows register checks on every listing. How we verify explains the method, and the directory lists register-checked professionals near you.
